A pastor has been arrested for allegedly enticing scheduled caste Indians to convert to Christianity, Uttar Pradesh police said on Monday.

According to media reports quoting police officials, pastor Polo Messiah was arrested late Sunday night after a complaint that he was trying to convert people of Sohna village in Rampur district of the state on Christmas.

A case was registered against him under sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
A similar incident was reported from Sitapur district on December 21, in which two Indians and four Brazilians organized a program in Shahbajpur village to allegedly lure locals to switch religions.
In October, Uttar Pradesh Police likewise lodged a complaint against nine people for carrying out forced conversions to Christianity in Meerut city.
