PM Modi’s Mother, Heeraben, Dies, Tributes Pour In

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi, also called Heeraben, was admitted to Wednesday morning due to illness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's beloved mother Heeraben Modi breathed her last early Friday morning.
On June 18 this year, she entered her 100th year.
Heera was admitted to a local hospital in Ahmedabad in Modi's home state of Gujarat on Wednesday after her health deteriorated. Her death was announced in an official statement by hospital authorities: "Smt Hiraba Modi passed away on 30/12/2022, at 3:39 am (early morning, during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart Hospital.”
Modi arrived in Gandhinagar city in the morning to perform the last rites at a crematorium in Gandhinagar.
Sharing a photograph of his mother, Modi in a heartfelt tribute in Hindi wrote: “A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”
In another tweet, the Indian Prime Minister shared that when “I met her on 100th birthday, she said one thing, which I always remember. She said work with intelligence, live life [in] purity.”

President of India Droupadi Murmu, in her condolence message, described Heeraben's life of 100 years as "a symbol of Indian traditions. May peace be upon the departed soul".
Federal Home Minister Amit Shah said in a tweet in Hindi: “Very sad to know about the demise of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s respected mother Hiraba. Mother is the first friend and teacher of a person and the pain of losing a mother is undoubtedly the biggest pain in the world.”
“Hiraba will be role model for all for running a family despite a lot of struggles. Her ascetic life will always be remembered. The entire nation stands with Prime Minister Modi and his family in this hour of grief. The prayers of crores of people are with you. Om Shanti,” he further tweeted.
Uttar Pradesh State Chief Yogi Adityanath also paid a heartfelt tribute. “Mother is the whole world for a son. Death of a mother is an unbearable and irreparable loss for a son. The demise of respected mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very sad. May Lord Shri Ram grant the departed pious soul a place at his holy feet. Om Shanti!”

Apart from members of the federally ruling BJP, opposition leaders have also expressed their grief over in solidarity with PM Modi.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge extended his condolences as he said that “our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in this hour of grief”.

Hiraba Modi used to live with Pankaj Modi, younger brother of Prime Minister, at Raysan Village near Gandhinagar.
