The new year celebration in the Indian cities of Bengaluru and Gurugram got out of control on Saturday night after a huge crowd gathered on the streets to celebrate, causing a ruckus and disrupting traffic.
The police had to resort to using lathis in a baton charge to disperse the hooligans, some of whom were caught consuming alcohol in public and dancing.
In the upscale Kormangala area of Bengaluru, a city in the southern state of Karnataka, a large number of people gathered outside pubs and were staring at others dancing inside.
To ensure the safety of women, a massive contingent of female police was also deployed across Bengaluru, especially at MG Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street.
However, some molestation cases were still reported, but no complaints have been lodged, so the police cannot confirm any such incident so far.
In Haryana state as well, posh Gurugram city's M. G. Road area witnessed a huge crowd walking on the street making noise and commotion.
Some were even reportedly caught consuming alcohol in public places.
Gurugram Police was left with no other option but to baton-charge them to bring the situation under control.
