Congress Parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi resumed his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' (Unite India march) from Delhi on Tuesday after a nine-day halt.
Gandhi began the march by paying his respects at the historical Hanuman Temple, located near the Yamuna Bazar in the Kashmere Gate area of Delhi, and headed to Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh state border is approximately 20 km from the Kashmere Gate area. It is expected that Gandhi will enter the state at around 4 pm on Tuesday. He will be in the state for three days before re-entering Haryana state.
He will be joined by many prominent party members, including his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who's also Congress' Uttar Pradesh in-charge and General Secretary.
The march has covered more than 110 days and over 3,000 km so far. It is also believed to be one of the longest marches organized by any Indian party in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, Gandhi invited opposition leaders like Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav to join his Yatra. Both leaders thanked him for the invitation, but they are unlikely to join Gandhi.
Currently, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state government rules Uttar Pradesh.
The foot march will be in Punjab from January 11 to 20, with a day in Himachal Pradesh state on January 19, before entering Jammu and Kashmir union territory on January 20.
