Unidentified suspects set on fire an ancestral house of India's former State Chief of Tripura Biplab Deb located in Gomti District's Udaipur city late Tuesday night.
The incident took place when a group of priests arrived at his residence to mark his father's death anniversary, with a special ritual set to be held on Wednesday.
According to media reports, the assailants attacked the priests and vandalized their vehicles before fleeing as some bystanders came forward to help out the victims.
The miscreants also damaged some shops before escaping, the media reports added.
However, there was no immediate report of any casualties.
Meanwhile, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the assailants were associated to Communist Party of India (Marxist). Sub Divisional Police Officer Nirupama Debbarma and Additional Superintendent of Police Debanjana Roy have visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.
