Sagar district authorities razed an illegal hotel owned by suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Mishri Chand Gupta in Madhya Pradesh amid public outrage over the murder of Jagdish Yadav, media reported on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the five-story hotel was demolished on late Tuesday night by a special team from Indore city, using 60 dynamite sticks, 80 kg of gunpowder, and 85 gelatin rods.
The demolition was carried out in the presence of Sagar District Collector Deepak Arya, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tarun Nayak, and other senior officers.
Officials said that permission had been granted for a two-story shopping complex, but a five-story hotel was built and operated there.
“In the safety view, traffic was stopped by placing barricades around the intersection. People living in the buildings around the hotel were also alerted. There has been no loss of any kind. Only the building was demolished,” Arya stated.
Suspended politician Gupta was accused of killing Jagdish Yadav by mowing him down with his SUV on December 22.
The victim was the nephew of independent Councilor Kiran Yadav, who had defeated Gupta’s wife by 83 votes in a local body poll.
A murder case against Gupta and seven others has been registered by local police. Five suspects have already been arrested.
