The celebration dates back to 1950 when India adopted its Constitution on January 26.
Until 1955, celebrations were limited to various sites in the national capital, but then they started to be celebrated all across India with parades, exhibitions and other activities.
This year, the major parade was held in Delhi, where Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was the special guest of honor.
The parade began from the Rashtrapati Bhawan on the Kartvyapath and marched to the Red Fort via India Gate. The opening ceremony included the unfurling of the national flag by the country’s president, followed by the march of several regiments of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
