A man was arrested by Bihar Police on Tuesday for allegedly threatening to kill India's federal Minister Nityanand Rai.
Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Vaishali area, Kumar Manish, told reporters that the accused is Madhav Jha who was arrested in the neighborhood of the Town Police Station.
The arrest came after footage of Jha emerged on social media, in which he claimed he would fire “two bullets” at Rai when the latter would be taking part in a religious procession on the occasion of Mahashivratri festival later this week [on 18 February].
The SP also told the media that the accused claimed to have had dreams about killing the minister and mentioned the fact in the video.
The investigation continues.
Rai participates in a religious procession held in Bihar's Hajipur area every year on the occasion of Mahashivratri, riding a bullock cart.
Rai, a politician from the federally ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was elected as Member of Parliament for the Ujiarpur constituency in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Before that, he represented Hajipur constituency in the Bihar state legislative assembly.
