The US and its allies are lying about what really happened at the Russian Nord Stream pipelines, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during his speech at the Russian State Duma on Wednesday.
The US government has repeatedly denied involvement in the blowing up of the Russian pipelines, while Moscow has said Washington has to explain itself and an open investigation into the blast needs to be undertaken.
Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage
On September 26, 2022, three of the four strings of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were damaged after an underwater blast.
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh earlier revealed that US Navy divers planted explosives to destroy the Nord Stream pipelines during NATO Baltops exercises last summer.
According to Hersh, only six out of eight bombs planted under the Nord Stream pipelines went off as US President Joe Biden postponed the special operation and the bombs were under water for too long. However, the US president decided to go on with the operation out of fear that Germany could lift sanctions, imposed against Russia over its special military operation in Ukraine.
Russia to Present New Foreign Policy Concept
"The United States and its satellites are carrying out a full-out hybrid war against us today, which has been in preparation for many years, using Ukrainian national radicals as a battering ram. The purpose of this war is not hidden — not only to defeat our country on the battlefield, destroying the Russian economy, but also to surround us with a cordon sanitaire, turn us into a kind of rogue state," Lavrov said on Wedndesday.
The minister added that all West's attempts to isolate Russia have failed.
The minister added that all West's attempts to isolate Russia have failed.
"In our updated foreign policy concept, we will talk about the need to end the West's monopoly on the formation of the framework of international life, the framework should henceforth be determined not in its selfish interests, but on a fairly universal basis of a balance of interests, as required by the UN Charter, which enshrined the principle of the sovereign equality of all states," Lavrov said on Wednesday.
