At least four people were killed and 14 injured in a blast in Pakistan's Balochistan province, in the Rakhi market area of the city of Barkhan on Sunday, according to police.
Senior police officer Abdullah Khoso told the media that the blast occurred when an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a motorcycle exploded. Several nearby shops and vehicles were damaged as a result of the blast.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident and pledged a detailed inquiry.
"Terrorists could not escape the punishment, and those shedding blood would be made an example," Prime Minister said.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed his "heartfelt condolences and solidarity" with the families of those killed in the attack. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has also condemned the blast and said terrorists would not succeed in their attempt to threaten the Baloch people.
The province has repeatedly seen attacks by the armed groups Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)* and Daesh**.
In November, TTP announced the suspension of its ceasefire with the Pakistani government and instructed the group's fighters to carry out attacks all over the country. The group, also known as the Pakistani Taliban, opposes the governments of both India and Pakistan, seeking control over parts of their territory. Its official goal is to establish ‘Sharia’ (Islamic law) in Pakistan.
*Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities.
** Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
