West Bengal State Chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday launched a two-day protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led federal government's discriminatory approach towards the state.
The sit-in demonstration, being staged in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's statue located on Kolkata city's Red Road, will last till Thursday evening.
Banerjee accused the federal government of neglect towards her state for withholding state funds for various social programmes, including schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), housing scheme – Indira Awas Yojana (Grameen) and scholarship for backward students.
To showcase her discontent, Banerjee brought a dummy machine to the protest site to compare it with the BJP members because of their criticism of the opposition parties.
