Faking sickness to avoid work or seek a day off and missing out on important engagements can no longer be easy as a new study by Indian researchers revealed that AI can now detect people suffering from cold from the tone of their voice.
Researchers at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology in Gujarat state's Surat city have come up with machine-learning algorithms that can detect cold with an accuracy of 70%.
The researchers told Indian media that they were able to detect cold through utilizing machine-learning algorithms to analyze the harmonics (vocal rhythms in human speech) to detect changes in voice.
The machine-learning algorithms analyzed the amplification differences of various individuals and identified those who had a cold.
During the research phase, the researchers successfully analyzed the vocal patterns of 630 people out of which 111 were affected by a cold and had an irregular pattern of harmonics.
