Over 11,300 traditional folk dancers and 2,500 drummers from India’s Assam state set a new Guinness World Record on Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.
They are now due to stage a grand show for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday who is visiting the state. Modi received a warm welcome from the state delegation and its people on their biggest festival day: 'Rongali Bihu'.

Largest Bihu Dhol Performance

On Thursday, the traditional Bihu dancers and drummers presented a gala act in the presence of an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records in Assam's Guwahati city.
Assam state chief Himanta Biswa Sarma told Indian media that it is the largest Bihu dance and Bihu dhol performance in a single venue.
Taking India’s rich culture and tradition to the global platform, Himanta shared that in December last year, the state likewise received a geographical indication (GI) registration certificate from the central government for the symbol of the culture and identity of Assam gamosa.
Gamosa is a handwoven rectangular cotton piece of cloth with red borders and different designs and motifs, traditionally offered to elders and guests as a mark of respect and honor by Assamese people.
