India Overtakes China in Population

India is currently experiencing what is commonly known as a demographic dividend – a period where the economy grows amid a low proportion of non-working dependents in the population.

There are 1.428 billion people living in India as of April 18 compared with 1.425 people in China, World Population Review figures have shown.
According to MarketWatch, this development underscores India’s vast economic potential, which is attributed not only to its population size, but also to its population composition. In order to fully unlock its economic potential, however, India will have to address a certain lag in labor productivity and female employment.
