Chithirai Chariot Festival: Scores of Devotees Join Colorful Procession

Hundreds of thousands of devotees flocked to the four Masi streets of Madurai city in southern India's Tamil Nadu state on the 11th day of the Chithirai chariot festival of the Meenakshi Amman Temple on Wednesday.
Awestruck by the grand colorful chariot carrying the processional deities trundling along the streets, the sea of devotees showered flowers, some greeting it with folded hands and chanting hymns, and others danced to the tunes of traditional drums.
The videos of the celebration have gone viral, showing scores of devotees pulling the chariot's ropes.
Police were deployed in large numbers to provide security for the chariot and regulate the huge crowd of devotees.
