The famed Indian tiffin carriers of Mumbai - or Dabbawalas - have reportedly been invited to attend the coronation ceremony of Britain's King Charles III on May 6.
The Dabbawalas were also seen buying the King gifts on Tuesday – a Puneri Pagadi (turban or headgear) and a shawl of the Warkari community.
Reportedly, the British Embassy has sent invitations to the Dabbawalas to attend the 74-year-old monarch's ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the country for more than 70 years, died in September, 2022, at the age of 96. Her son Prince Charles became king, taking the name Charles III, and his wife Camilla received the status of queen consort. The royal couple's coronation is scheduled to be held at Westminster Abbey in a grand ceremony.
In 2003, Prince Charles praised the flawless management skills of Dabbawalas in distributing meals to hundreds of thousands of people every day without a miss. He invited the Dabbawalas to his wedding with Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.
Last year, these tiffin carriers who have been delivering lunch to the people of Mumbai for over 126 years, condoled the passing away of the Queen.
