As India marks 'Buddha Purnima' festival with great pomp and vigor, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as several global leaders took to social media to extend their wishes to people on Friday.
PM Modi tweeted a video of him offering floral tribute to Gautam Buddha statue, and sharing a message on the occasion on Twitter stating: "May the ideals of Lord Buddha keep showing light and giving strength to us all.”
Calling Lord Buddha the epitome of compassion, President Droupadi Murmu tweeted that he has shown us the path of enlightenment, tolerance, and virtue. She also urged citizens to adopt the teachings of Lord Buddha in our mind, word, deed and conduct and work towards building a glorious nation.
Exyending his greetings on the occassion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "...We recall the thoughts and ideals of Bhagwan Buddha as we rededicate ourselves towards a harmonious and peaceful society. Teachings of Lord Buddha will continue to inspire coming generations."
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Sadhguru, and many others also extended wishes to Buddhists worldwide on this occasion.

"On this special occasion, I urge my spiritual brothers and sisters to be warm-hearted and lead a meaningful life, to be dedicated to the welfare of others. Warmheartedness is key to peace and harmony in the world," the Dalai Lama said in his message.
