Sputnik was live from Moscow where the annual World War II Victory Day parade was held on Tuesday, 9 May.
The parade marked the 78th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War. Roughly 10,000 troops and over 120 different units of weaponry and equipment are expected to take part in the event.
The parade will be attended by high-profile foreign guests including the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov who previously visited Rzhev to pay respect to the memorial to the Soviet Soldier and laid flowers.
President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russians on the 78th anniversary of the World War Two victory day, and mentioned that today the civilization is at a “turning point.”
"Like the vast majority of people on the planet, we want to see a future of peace, freedom and stability," Putin said that the victory parade, adding that "any ideology of superiority is inherently disgusting, criminal and deadly."
