Delhi will soon have women-only “pink parks” spread across the city and these will be operated by the civic authority — the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), reported the Indian daily Hindustan Times.
As per the report, there will be 250 pink parks — one park in each ward of the civic agency, which will have facilities including an open gym, washroom, selfie points, and play areas, among other things.
Equipped with CCTV cameras, the parks will also have additional security measures in place.
The matter has been discussed since last month, with deputy mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal agreeing that “such parks must be developed.”
In Delhi, most parks are managed by the MCD’s horticulture department.
The deputy mayor said that MCDs have more than 15,000 parks in Delhi varying from a few dozen to over 100 parks. These parks already have open gyms, however, it was noticed that women often hesitate to use these facilities when men are also using them.
The parks will also be open to children of both sexes below age 10.
