In order to unite opposition parties ahead of the 2024 general elections to take on the federally-governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bihar state chief Nitish Kumar on Sunday met with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal.
The two met a day after Kejriwal was snubbed by Congress as he was not invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka state chief Siddararamiah.
The meeting holds significance as Kejriwal on Saturday promised to contact the opposition parties regarding the National Capital Civil Service Authority (NCCSA) law issued by the federal government.
The ordinance is related to the posting and transfer of Delhi officials.
It has been termed as “blissfully ignorant of the law” by the Delhi government.
After the meeting, Kejriwal said Nitish Kumar had given him "full support" on the issue and that they would fight it out together.
"We will fight the injustice done to Delhi by the federal government together. I have requested that if all non-BJP opposition parties gather together, the Ordinance can be defeated in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Parliament) in the form of a bill. It will be a semi-final if the move is defeated in the upper house. A message will go across the country that BJP will not be able to return in 2024", he said.
Nitish Kumar also slammed the ordinance, questioning how they could snatch power from an elected government.
Bihar deputy state chief and Tejashwi Yadav and AAP Parliamentarian Sanjay Singh were also present, along with the JD(U)'s top leader.
