Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday confirmed that the Russian Armed Forces attacked headquarters of military intelligence of Ukraine on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian armed forces carried out missile strikes on central decision-making centers in Ukraine, where terrorist attacks on the territory of Russia were being prepared under the guidance of Western specialists.
Putin also mentioned that Ukraine declared itself a neutral state when it became independent.
“Instead, they gradually embarked on a different path of joining NATO, an organization that is hostile to Russia and was created solely to fight the Soviet Union and Russia … Not only they deceived us and told us that there would be no NATO expansion to the east, but they also reached Ukraine,” Putin told reporters.
The Russian foreign ministry said earlier that Moscow reserves the right to take “the most severe measures” after the Ukrainian drone attack on Tuesday.
Statements that Ukraine will not strike deep into Russia are “hypocritical” following the Tuesday drone attack, the ministry added.
