Two pilots of the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Surya Kiran trainer aircraft narrowly escaped death after their plane crashed in an open field in Chamarajnagar district of India's Karnataka state on Thursday.
The aircraft was on a routine training sortie.
The two pilots, identified as Tejpal and Bhumika, survived by ejecting themselves in time.
The IAF, however, stated in a tweet that a court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The footage of the accident is rapidly circulating on social media, depicting debris from the aircraft scattered on the ground while curious villagers wander around examining it closely.
