The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday that it had thwarted a terrorist plot targeting an energy facility and a military registration and enlistment office on the Sakhalin Island.
"The Federal Security Service in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk thwarted a plot for terrorist attacks targeting the island's energy system facility and a military commissariat. As a result of the measures taken, a Russian citizen, born in 1980, who was a supporter of Ukrainian neo-Nazism, was apprehended, for illegal activities," the FSB said in a statement.
The federal authorities reported that components for making homemade explosive devices, communications equipment containing instructions for making an improvised bomb and incendiary devices, a large amount of terrorist and extremist content, and correspondence with a handler of one of the terrorist organizations in Ukraine were seized at the suspect's place of residence.
