Six people have died in a helicopter crash near the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, in Nepal, a spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), said on Tuesday.
"The five passengers and a pilot in the helicopter have lost their lives in the crash," Jagannath Niroula, a spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, told Chinese news agency.
Gyanendra Bhul, information officer of the CAAN, told local media that the Manang Air helicopter, carrying five foreign nationals and the captain, took off from Surki in Nepal's Solukhumbu district to Kathmandu at around 9:45 in the morning and lost contact 15 minutes into the flight.
Airport official Sagar Kadel mentioned that due to unfavorable weather conditions, the helicopter had to alter its flight route, the news agency AP reported.
Niroula added that the chopper carrying five Mexican tourists, including the pilot, had hit a tree.
All six dead bodies have been airlifted to Kathmandu Teaching Hospital for post-mortem.
