The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) released its annual report on Saturday, in which it recorded over 38,000 complaints of domestic violence and over 600,000 distress calls from July 2022 to July 2023.
"We received a maximum number of calls related to domestic violence (38,342), followed by conflict with neighbors (9,516) and rape and sexual harassment complaints (5,895),” DCW chief Swati Maliwal said.
DCW launched a 181 helpline number last year, receiving 630,288 calls.
“Almost 11,000 cases were from outside Delhi. The toll free helpline number is also backed by a team of counselors 24*7. We not just counsel these women, but if needed meet the girl victim on the spot and help them get to file complaint,” said Maliwal during a press conference.
DCW handles, investigates, and examines matters related to women's security and safety in Delhi. It sometimes seeks reports or sends notices to Delhi Police about women's offenses.
