As part of India’s 77th Independence Day, about 1,800 special guests have been invited to Delhi's Red Fort on Tuesday to be witness the mega celebrations planned.
As per media reports, a total of 17,000 e-invitation cards have been issued and 75 couples from each state have also been invited to the ceremony. The invited couples have been asked to attend the ceremony in their traditional attire.
Apart from this, people who have contributed to the development of the country - including village sarpanchs (heads of local village bodies), teachers, nurses, and border organization workers - have also been invited.
The government has also set up 'selfie points' at 12 locations in Delhi, including the National War Memorial, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, New Delhi Railway Station, Pragati Maidan, Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid Metro Station, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Delhi Gate Metro Station, ITO Metro Gate, Naubat Khana, and Sheesh Ganj Gurudwara so that people can take photos and commemorate the country's freedom struggle.
In order to encourage people to click photos from these installations, the government has announced a selfie competition from August 15 to 20.
In a traditional ceremony every year, the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at Delhi's Red Fort and addresses the nation, followed by a military parade.
Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu will be addressing the nation on Monday evening.
