Selfie in Outer Space? India’s Sun Satellite Shares Earth and Moon Photos

On 2 September, India launched its mission to study the Sun, Aditya L1. The mission aims to help scientists understand the upper layers, chromosphere, and corona of the Sun as well as how these layers behave and interact with each other.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared fresh photos taken by Aditya-L1 on Thursday, including selfies and pictures of the Moon and Earth in the same space.
As a part of ISRO’s solar mission, Aditya-L1 is scheduled to reach the Sun-Earth L1 point.
Aditya L1 will reach a point 1.5 million km away from Earth to a special spot known as Lagrange point 1 (L1) in 125 days.
On Tuesday, ISRO said that Aditya-L1 Solar Mission has successfully performed its second earth-bound maneuver from the Indian Space and Research Organisation Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC).
“The new orbit attained is 282 km x 40225 km,” the Indian space agency said.
Aditya has to complete five maneuvers and will begin its 110-day trajectory to its destination around the L1 Lagrange point.
The next maneuver is scheduled for September 10, it said.
