Controversy Sparks Off After Pakistan Gets First-Ever Miss Universe Contestant

After winning the title of Miss Universe Pakistan on Thursday, 24-year-old Pakistani model Erica Robin is set to represent the country at the 72nd Global Miss Universe Pageant scheduled to be held in El Salvador later this year.

A major controversy erupted when Pakistan's interim Prime Minister Anwaar-Ul-Haq Kakar, along with the country's Foreign Ministry and intelligence bureau, raised objections regarding Erica Robin winning the Miss Universe Pakistan beauty pageant that took place in the Maldives without the government's permission.
The country is currently facing severe pressing issues, including the South Asian nation's rising debt crisis, economic crisis, electricity shortage, and others.
The prime minister has requested the foreign office to investigate the situation since the event was arranged by Yugen Group, a Dubai-based company that allegedly declared in March that it had obtained the rights to organize the competition.
Yugen has reportedly taken up the responsibility for sending the first Pakistani contestant to the global Miss Universe competition, which will have participants from over 90 countries.
Born on September 14, 1999, to a Christian family in Karachi, Erica Robin stepped into the modelling world in January 2020.
Robin was crowned Miss Universe Pakistan after beating four other finalists, who were selected from a pool of over 200 contestants.

“I am honored and humbled to be the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan and I want to highlight the beauty of Pakistan”, Robin wrote on social media. “We have a beautiful culture that the media is not talking about, Pakistani people are very generous, kind, and hospitable”, she added.
