India has registered its best performance in its history at the Asian Games in the Chinese city of Hangzhou after its archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale bagged their country's 16th gold medal on Wednesday.
The Indian archers outsmarted So Chae-won and Joo Jae-hoon of South Korea in the compound mixed team event. They won the gold medal match with a score of 159-158.
This makes India's 71st medal - the country's best performance at the Asian Games in its history with 16 Gold, 26 Silver, and 29 Bronze.
In a separate event, India bagged a bronze medal when Manju Rani and Ram Bamboo came third in the 35km race walk mixed team event.
At the 2018 Asia games, the Indian contingent won 70 medals in total. This year's Asian Games is continuing until 8 October.
