The Supreme Court of India on Friday dismissed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which challenges Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Albert Einstein's mass–energy equivalence equation (ie, E=MC²).
The petitioner, Raj Kumar, said that both Darwin's and Einstein's theories are wrong and have harmed thousands of people and thus should not be taught in educational institutions.
Kumar also claimed that 20 million people had died, having accepted Darwin's theory.
The Supreme Court said that Kumar should either "re-educate himself or develop an alternative theory."
The two-judge bench of Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, ruled: "We cannot compel anyone to unlearn. Dismissed," with Justice Kaul adding: "If you believe those theories were wrong, then the Supreme Court has nothing to do."
