India To Become World's Largest Software Hub By 2027

India's developer community is on the verge of surpassing the US to become a global leader in the expansion of software developers, as per to the annual Octoverse report by GitHub.

India has experienced a tremendous surge in its developer community, welcoming an impressive 3.5 million new developers to GitHub in 2023, according to the developer platform. his remarkable expansion has now brought the total number of developers in the country to a staggering 13.2 million.
If the country maintains the same growth rate, then by 2027, it will overtake the US and become the largest development center in the world, the report stressed.
"India's growing developer community is central to the country's position as an innovation powerhouse. It's exciting to see Indian developers making significant contributions to generative AI projects on GitHub, highlighting India's growing significance in the AI landscape, with the country's developers directly shaping the future of AI innovation worldwide," said Sharryn Napier, vice president of Asia Pacific at GitHub.
GitHub report also shows that the number of developers in the generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) grew over 148 percent in a year. India, the US, and Germany are leading in developer communities, followed by Japan, Hong Kong, the UK, and France.
