According to local media reports on Monday, the caretaker government of Pakistan intends to challenge the apex court's verdict, which declared military trials of civilians to be unconstitutional.
Different government departments have hired separate private counsels in a bid to oppose the apex court's verdict in late October. The decision was issued by a larger bench of the Supreme Court, media reported on Monday.
Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Awan will represent Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar-headed federal government. Likewise, the defence and interior ministries have engaged senior lawyer Khawaja Haris Ahmer Bilal Sufi respectively.
In provinces, the Balochistan and Sindh governments have plans to submit their pleas through Sikandar Bashir Mohmand and Jahanzaib Awan respectively.
Last month, a five-judge bench of the top court had unanimously declared civilians' trial in military courts as null and void. The apex court also declared that the 103 accused in cases relating to the 9 and 10 May violence be tried under the ordinary criminal laws.
