At least 100 Pakistani drones purportedly smuggling arms and ammunition into India have been either successfully shot down or recovered this year, India's Border Security Force (BSF) said on Tuesday.

“Till now, in 2023, BSF Punjab has successfully shot down/ recovered 100 Pakistani drones being used by anti-national elements to smuggle narcotics, arms, and ammunition into Indian territory,” a tweet by BSF Punjab Frontier read.

It further added that the BSF has also successfully apprehended smugglers who were using the drones.
The border security troops has devised a “three-pronged strategy” aimed at clipping the movement of drugs and other narcotics in the country.
The strategy reportedly includes curtailing the drug supply, fostering awareness against drug abuse, and empowering youth with skills to channel their energy, thereby facilitating meaningful employment opportunities.
On Monday, 434 grams of heroin were seized by the BSF from Ranian village in Amritsar during a search operation after a Pakistani drone allegedly violated Indian airspace.
Notably, the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed a counter-drone system at its bases earlier this month to tackle the increasing threat from unmanned aerial vehicles.
