The Delhi Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, took decisive action on Thursday by issuing an order for genome sequencing of all individuals who test positive for COVID-19.
This crucial step aims to identify the JN.1 sub-variant of Omicron, allowing to effectively track and combat the spread of the virus.
He told Indian media that out of three COVID-19-positive samples sent for genome sequencing, one is JN.1 and the other two are Omicron.
Bharadwaj stated that the patient, who was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with the new variant, has been successfully discharged.
A new sub-variant of COVID-19, JN.1, was first detected in India in November in the state of Kerala, following an increase in the number of cases.
This month, several states have urged people to follow coronavirus protocols, such as wearing masks and avoiding crowded places.
