Scores of people thronged to the celebration spots across Delhi, Mumbai, and various cities throughout the country to bid farewell to the eventful year of 2023 and welcome 2024 with a bang.
As the country enters a new year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished people "a splendid" year ahead.
"Wishing everyone a splendid 2024! May this year bring forth prosperity, peace, and wonderful health for all," PM Modi posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
On New Year's Eve, popular tourist destinations in India were also crowded with large numbers of visitors.
Delhi NCR
In New Delhi, Hindu devotees flocked to the temples to attend New Year aarti (offering light and worshipping Gods and Goddesses) performed at Jhandewalan Devi Temple and other temples.
A large number of people gathered at India Gate, Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas Village, and other prominent places to celebrate with music, dance and fireworks.
In the neighboring cities of Noida and Gurugram, the festivities were gaining momentum, with over 10,000 police officers deployed across Delhi NCR to ensure safety during celebrations.
Goa
Goa, one of the country's most beloved tourist destinations, mesmerized visitors with its breathtaking fireworks illuminating the beaches and captivating midnight masses held in its churches.
Himachal Pradesh
Large crowds of people gathered on Mall Road in Shimla to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.
Yet, the city has only achieved a 60 percent occupancy, which marks the lowest in the past 40 years.
Maharashtra
In Mumbai city, thousands gathered at the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, and other places on Sunday night to ring in Year 2024.
Thousands of devotees flocked to renowned Siddhivinayak, Mumbadevi, and Shirdi Sai Baba temples, along with numerous churches, gurudwaras, and dargahs, on the final day of the year, eagerly seeking solace and divine blessings as they embarked on a fresh journey with the advent of 2024.
Jammu and Kashmir
Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk in Srinagar witnessed a massive gathering of people, bracing minus zero-degree temperature and eagerly welcoming the arrival of the new year.
Gulmarg town in Baramulla district set the stage for an extravagant New Year's Eve celebration, featuring captivating laser shows and mesmerizing dance performances.

Devotees in Amritsar flocked to the Golden Temple to usher in the New Year with heartfelt prayers.
