Scores of devotees flocked to decorated temples across India to worship Goddess Saraswati and take a dip in holy water as they celebrate Basant Panchami and mark the first day of spring with great devotion.
Hymns and prayers echoed through temples and pandals (makeshift temples) decorated with white and yellow flowers, as devotees immersed themselves in worship and shared traditional sweets such as kesar halwa and Saraswati puja offerings.
The festival blanketed the city in shades of yellow as people dressed in vibrant garb to celebrate the blossoming of spring, representing growth, prosperity and new beginnings.
Wearing yellow also signifies the mustard flowers that begin to bloom at this time of year.
Several devotees pay tribute to Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of knowledge, music, art, science, and craftsmanship, by worshipping study books, displaying arts and crafts, and holding music and dance events.
