Acknowledging India's overall economic growth and its work in the area of digital public infrastructure, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that it would be in Sri Lanka's interest to copy what its neighbour has done.
Wickremasinghe made these remarks while addressing a seminar on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) organised by the High Commission of India to Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday.
The Sri Lankan leader said he discussed Sri Lanka's challenges and opportunities with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's visit to India last year, following which he decided to introduce elements of digital public infrastructure in the bilateral relations.
Admitting that Sri Lanka needed help in its current situation, he said the best place to get the required help in the field of DPI was India.
Speaking on the occasion, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, mentioned the success of the Digital India programme spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jha also highlighted the success of India's digital ecosystem and spoke about the launch of UPI in Sri Lanka last month, while mentioning the upcoming unique digital identity project that India is implementing in Sri Lanka.
