Norilsk Nickel is prepared to boost productivity and expand the use of green hydrogen in India by implementing palladium-based prototypes in partnership with Indian companies engaged in hydrogen production and consumption.
"Palladium-based catalysts show increased efficiency at every stage of the hydrogen energy chain, from electrolysis to fuel cells to transportation. Palladium membranes purify hydrogen for use in microelectronics, solar energy, and synthetic diamond production," stated Anna Karzhevina, head of commercialization of new products at Norilsk Nickel.
Norilsk Nickel's collaboration with Indian companies aims to implement palladium-based prototypes to enhance productivity and broaden the use of green hydrogen in India, contributing to the country's energy transition goals.
The Hydrogen Technology Expo in Delhi brought together industry experts to discuss cutting-edge technologies in the hydrogen and fuel cell industries.
Norilsk Nickel is a leading supplier of base and precious metals, improving the efficiency of green technologies. The company representatives discussed the results of their trials and the potential applications of palladium products in the global hydrogen industry. Additionally, the chemical properties of palladium, a critical future metal, are studied at Norilsk Nickel’s Palladium Technology Center.
Palladium has a unique ability to split hydrogen molecules into atoms as they pass through the metal and then recombine them using the same palladium. Palladium is impervious to other gases, which is why palladium membranes are used to produce ultra-pure hydrogen. Palladium allows for the recovery of gas at relatively low temperatures.
