As the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India are being announced on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is very close to getting a mandate while Congress-led Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) has given a tough fight against the ruling party.
According to the latest information on the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the results from 280 seats out of 543 have been called, out of which the BJP has won 140 while Congress has emerged victorious on 55.
Apart from this, the BJP is leading in 100 seats while Congress is ahead in 42 and the Samajwadi Party (SP) has won 23 seats.
However, according to media reports, the BJP-led NDA alliance will get a clear mandate as it will easily cross the halfway mark of 272 seats and win around 290 seats, whereas the opposition bloc is set to win 234 seats.
The final results are yet to be declared.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day when the trends showed that the NDA was ahead, there were celebrations at the BJP headquarters as workers celebrated the third term of the alliance with music and chants of "Jai Shri Ram" and "Har Har Mahadev".
Later in the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of the country for their "faith" in NDA and termed it a historical feat.
"I bow to the Janata Janardan (public) for this affection and assure them that we will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people. I also salute all our Karyakartas (party workers) for their hard work. Words will never do justice to their exceptional efforts," Modi said in a tweet.
Apart from Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and various other members of the BJP thanked the people of the country for voting in favour of NDA.
