Defenсe Minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Russia in the first week of December to formally induct the Tushil into the Indian Navy.
The Tushil has successfully completed its final trials in Russia, sources in the Defence Ministry informed Sputnik India.
An Indian Navy team that went to Russia for the final delivery acceptance trials has returned to India, confirming that the Tushil has passed all tests.
The guided missile frigate is equipped with BrahMos missiles, giving it a formidable capability to strike enemy ships and land targets. Recently, BrahMos missiles were also installed on another Talwar-class frigate, INS Talwar. These ships have a top speed of 30 knots and can cover a distance of 3,000 km in one go.
When it comes to air defence, the frigate is armed with medium-range Shtil missiles and short-range Igla missile systems. To counter enemy submarines, it is equipped with anti-submarine rockets and torpedoes.
The ship’s radar system for surface surveillance and sonar for underwater detection are state-of-the-art, while the onboard combat management system ensures quick and effective use of all its weapons.
In 2016, India and Russia signed an agreement to build four Teg-class stealth frigates — two in Russia and two in India. The frigates in India are being built at Goa Shipyard with technical assistance from Russia. The first of these warships, named Triput, was launched for sea trials in July, all of which are expected to be completed within the next two years.
