If the AK-203 wins the tender, the police will become the second Indian security agency to acquire these domestically produced assault rifles.
The Korwa Ordnance Factory’s capabilities enable it to equip personnel from the Ministry of Defence and other law enforcement agencies in India with AK-203 rifles. These rifles, known for their high adaptability, are suitable for a variety of operators. Furthermore, the joint venture will have the potential to export its products to third-party countries in the future, according to Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev.
The Kalashnikov AK-203 is a version of the AK-200 assault rifle, specifically designed to accommodate the Indian Army's 7.62×39 mm replacement cartridge. The weapon retains the reliability and ease of maintenance that Kalashnikov rifles are known for.
Manufactured in India using exclusive Russian technologies on certified equipment, the AK-203 ensures high product quality and meets its declared specifications. It also aligns with India’s "Make In India" initiative and the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) concept.
The Russian founders of Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited are Rosoboronexport and the Kalashnikov Concern, both part of the Rostec State Corporation.
