Putin Announces Easter Ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that an Easter truce will begin at 6 pm Moscow time (3 PM GMT) on Saturday and will last until midnight on Sunday

Speaking at a meeting with General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov, Putin ordered that all military actions be halted during this period, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian considerations.

"Guided by humanitarian concerns, the Russian side declares a ceasefire from 6:00 PM on Saturday until midnight on Sunday into Monday. I order all military actions to cease during this time," Putin said.

Putin has also congratulated the fighters of the Special Military Operation, as well as all Orthodox Christians in Russia and elsewhere, on the upcoming Easter.
The Russian president also warned that Russian troops must remain prepared to respond to any violations of the ceasefire. Putin added that Russian forces should be ready to repel any potential attacks or provocations from Ukraine during the truce.
"We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example," Putin said during a meeting with Russian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
