“I believe we are at the beginning of this process, which is highly significant,” Polyansky told Sputnik. “The efforts between Russia and the US towards normalisation go well beyond discussions on a potential resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. These talks could bring our two nations closer together, which would serve the interests not only of Russia and the United States, but of the entire international community. I think this view is shared by many of our partners engaged in these discussions.”
In the first 100 days of his second term, US President Donald Trump held phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while officials from both countries also met in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
A key part of the drive to restore diplomatic ties includes visits to Russia by US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Efforts are underway to resume normal embassy operations and discuss the reinstatement of direct flights between the US and Russia.
