"India is now the world’s most populous nation, with nearly 1.5 billion people – a number expected to grow to about 1.7 billion before it begins falling, around 40 years from now," UNFPA said in the State of World Population report.
According to the report, the average woman in India now has about two children.
UNFPA said that back in 1960, when India’s population was around 436 million, women in that country had, on average, nearly six children.
