Most Energy Trade Within SCO Now Conducted in National Currencies: Russian Energy Minister

A majority of energy trade among the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is now being conducted in national currencies, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev said on Thursday at the opening of the SCO Business Forum.

“SCO member states possess one of the most significant potentials in the field of energy and energy project implementation,” Tsivilev stated. “Today, cooperation is active across all key areas — from energy supply and project execution to collaboration in technology, logistics, finance, and insurance.”
He emphasized that "most energy trade is already being conducted in national currencies," reflecting the growing trend among SCO nations to reduce reliance on third-party currencies like the U.S. dollar.
