Born on 2nd August 1876 in Bhatlapenumarru, Andhra Pradesh, Pingali Venkayya was a freedom fighter, educationist, and visionary. A true patriot, he dedicated his life to India’s independence movement.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Venkayya proposed several designs for a national flag that could represent the essence of India’s struggle and spirit. His design, which evolved over time, eventually became the basis of the tricolor flag we proudly salute today.
The flag, as adopted on 22nd July 1947, carries deep symbolism:
Saffron signifies courage and sacrifice.
White stands for peace and truth.
Green represents faith and fertility.
The Ashoka Chakra at its center symbolizes eternal progress and righteousness.
