US Tariff Threats Unlikely to Disrupt India-Russia Relations – Reports

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) - The US threats to impose high tariffs on a range of Indian goods for India's trade with Russia are unlikely to undermine the strong strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow, the Times of India reported on Tuesday, citing a government source.

On July 30, Washington announced that India would face a 25% tariff on its exports to the US and pay a "penalty" for purchasing energy and military equipment from Russia, effective August 1.
"We will go solely by the interest of our consumers and opt for the best option price-wise. If Russian crude works out cheaper than what we can get from other sources, why should we penalise our consumers?" a government source was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
