Putin–Trump Meeting Brings Hope for Ukraine Ceasefire: Former Alaska Official

The upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska could pave the way for a swift ceasefire in Ukraine, Former Alaska Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman told Sputnik.
Sputnik
Leman said he hoped the talks would be “substantive” and lead quickly to both a truce and a broader peace agreement. According to him, Trump is determined to end the conflict, and he hopes Putin shares the same goal.
"I am hopeful that there will be a meaningful dialogue that will result in a ceasefire and some sort of peace agreement soon," Leaman said.
The Kremlin and the White House announced last week that the two leaders will meet in Alaska on August 15. The summit is expected to focus heavily on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, alongside other pressing bilateral and global issues.
