In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Prime Minister Rabuka as an important partner in the Global South and the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
This visit marks Rabuka's first to India in his current role, accompanied by his spouse, Sulueti Rabuka, and a high-level delegation, including Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Rabuka paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, further symbolizing the close ties between the two nations.
During his stay, Rabuka is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) on "Ocean of Peace," focusing on regional stability, India-Pacific engagement, and the importance of maritime cooperation. He is also set to meet with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rabuka's visit highlights the growing diplomatic relationship between India and Fiji, following the state visit of President Droupadi Murmu to Suva in August 2024. During her visit, she addressed the Fijian Parliament, emphasizing the shared values and close ties between the two nations.
This momentum was further reinforced during the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Suva in July 2025. The consultations, led by MEA Secretary Neena Malhotra and Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raijeli Taga, focused on cooperation in various areas, including health, education, trade, renewable energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation and maintaining regular high-level exchanges, paving the way for an even stronger bilateral relationship.
