The European Commission has described Russia’s Druzhba oil pipeline as an important asset for the EU’s energy security but avoided explicitly calling on Ukraine to refrain from targeting it.
When asked whether Brussels had urged Kiev to avoid strikes on the pipeline, Commission spokesperson Eva Hrcinova said the EU remains in contact with the Ukrainian side and "calls on all parties to the conflict to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure."
Hrcinova emphasized that the Druzhba pipeline plays a key role in the EU’s energy security. At the same time, she noted that, according to the Commission’s assessment, previous strikes on the pipeline have not had a significant impact on the bloc’s overall energy security.
